Roy Loney
And The Longshots
Over
the last thirty years, Roy has maintained a serious solo career with the
Phantom Movers, and now the Longshots. Roy was the frontman in the original
Flamin' Groovies, writing and singing most of the material on their first
four releases.
When
we launched Career Records, Roy was one of the first artists we thought
to sign. When asked, he didn't hesitate to say "yes". There
may have been a Longshot or two gently herding towards our stable
A
new Longshots album was begun in 2005, and released in September 2007. Shake It Or Leave it has been called Roy's best since Out After Dark. We think so too.

Donovan's
Brain
A
group of four over achievers who don't seem to know when to stop. Based
in Bozeman, they have appeared on records by Angie Pepper, The
Golden Breed, as well as backing Penny Ikinger on her American
tour. They still have found time to released two albums on Career.

The
Golden Breed
While
billed as Deniz Tek And The Golden Breed, this is in fact a collaboration
with the Godoy brothers, Art and Steve. The singing and songwriting is
shared equally amongst the three.
Mojo
said that this was the best ever Deniz Tek solo album. We can't wait until
they do another one.

Penny
Ikinger
Deniz
had been talking about Penny even before we heard her demo. Electra
was nearly finished when we started Career records. Our assisstance and
advice eventually led to Penny coming on board.
David Fricke
said some very nice things about Penny in Rolling Stone.
We were all pleased.
Penny
is currently assembling demos for the follow up to Electra,
which she hopes to record in the fall/winter of 2006. |

Angie
Pepper
Angie's
record was one of the three original Career projects. It began as an EP,
with The Deniz Tek Group and Dave Weyer supplying the backing.
When it was decided to expand the scope to a full album, Angie and Deniz
came over to Bozeman and recorded more tracks with Donovan's Brain.
Work has
begun on the follow up to Res Ipsa Loquitor, but this will
now have to wait for the Passenger reunion.

Deniz
Tek-Scott Morgan/3 Assassins
Deniz
and Scott went to France and Italy, and all we got was this screaming
live album. This three guitar frontline finds the two Ann Arbor boy backed
by A3 (aka Sonic Assassins). They reinvent material from Den's
solo career and the Scott Morgan song book. On either end are killer MC5
and Stooges covers.
This
looks to be a one time affair, but we hope to see Scott Morgan on Career
in the future.

The
Plaintiffs
Joey
Kline plays guitar in Roy Loney's Longshots, but we've known him for a
lot longer than that. I guess this means that we've kept it in the family
with this release. I produced it, Deniz loved it.
Not much
more to say about it, except the band rocks live. We have high
hopes for this one. |

The
Deniz Tek Group
The
secod DTG album Le Bonne Route was one of Deniz' most experimental
efforts. After a year of touring Deniz, with Kent Steedman, Nick Reith,
and Jim Dickson had found a common musical language. Unfortunately, disagreements
about the mix meant the original Citadel release was not what Deniz and
producer David Weyer had intended. Now, ten years after it's initial release,
Deniz has collected all the original mixes, rehearsals, demos, and live
recordings which will comprise a new deluxe edition to be titled
La Bonne Route. Look for this release in 2008. |

Armchair
Explorers
Armchair
Explorers are a series of continuing science experiments conducted in
the GLEA Labs. Some of the results have appeared on Donovan's Brain albums,
but with four songwriters in the band now, it's become increasingly difficult
to fit this material into the track listings.
As a result
there is a serious backlog of music which has yet to be heard. The participants
in this on going project include Ron Sanchez, Jeff Arntsen, Jonathan Drews,
Seth Lyons, Ron Craighead and Richard Treece. The album 17th Electricity
Plan is always under construction, and will probably be released.
Watch for
excerpts to be posted here soon.... |
