It's no surprise that six of the eight initial Career Records releases were record entierly or in part at God's Little Ear Acre/GLEA. By default, GLEA has become the Career in-house recording facility.
Since the late 80's GLEA has been home to Donovan's Brain, but has always operated as a commercial studio hosting a long list of local and international artists including Jason Lytle, The Nomads, The Young Fresh Fellows, Sunset Valley, The Onyas, Richard Booth, Angie Pepper, and Roy Loney.
Career Records and GLEA depend on a small informal network of studios and support facilities to bring you the music. We can recommend all the following establishments to help you with your musical projects.
Deniz Tek and Angie Pepper have done extensive work with David Weyer at his studio DWS in Billings, Montana. It's worth working with Dave, just to hear his great stories about his time spent in LA back in the late 60's.
DWS is a pretty unique facility, set up in his barn. The Golden Breed, Deniz Tek Group, Angie Pepper, and The Glass Spiders.

Egg Studio is in many ways the inspriation for GLEA. I believe the current location is actually the second Egg.
I was introduced to Conrad Uno by The Young Fresh Fellows. The first "proper" Donovan's Brain sessions took place here, Follow The Shining Path on Carelessly Restored Art was produced by Scott McCaughey and features Jim and Tad from the Fellows.
All three of the Longshots studio albums are products of Egg under the direction of Uno, Johnny Sangster and Scott McCaughey. The relaxed and casual atmosphere shows through on these records. Penny Ikinger has Egg on the short list for a studio to produce her next album
The list of Egg's clients is pretty long, and includes Sonic Youth, The Nomads and most important, The Presidents Of The United States, who's hit album was recorded by Uno and originally released on Popllama, the house label.
Penny Ikinger chose Hot House to record her stunning debut, Electra. Owner, Craig Harnath engineered and produced with Penny. In 2002, Radio Birdman stopped in for a day to record a new songs a a couple of choice covers. Hot House is a analog-digital hybrid studio, running a 24 track and Pro Tools. Hot House is a small, but fully equipped facility located in the St Kilda district of Melbourne, Australia, VIC
Ant Farm came to our attention when Richard Treece and Green Ray ventured to the norht of London to record tracks for their new cd, Fragile World. When it came time for Richard to add guitars to the Donovan's Brain album,
this was his first choice. Under the watchful eye of Paul Newman, the work was done in short time. Ant Farm is a small digital studio, but their work is professional all the way.
Green Ray has booked time at Ant Farm to record their next cd of all material. It's hoped Richard will also find time to contribute to some new Donovan's Brain recordings.
Castle Studios are located in Utica, New York. The studio occupies an old church and is a world class facility. Vince Sanchez assissted in the design and construction of this fabulous studio.
It's hoped that Career will see some of their artists record here in the future. For now, you can read much more about Castle at their web site.
Pip McCaslin was recommeded to us by Conrad Uno. His company, Realtime, manufactured the first "proper" Donovan's Brain release, the cassette Butterfly Wheel.
Pip has now expanded his operations to include CD-R dupication, design, and and CD pressing broker. His personal service has earned him a very good reputation. GLEA has sent many of our clients to Pip for their CDs. No complaints.
Based on the suggestion of our US distributor, Career has taken all their business to the Portland based duplication broker, Cravedog. Our man, Tony Trause, has given every project his personal attention and delivered every time. They have an impressive list of clients including our friend
Willy Vlutin and Richmond Fontaine. When we compared notes, we found that we were both very please with the service and final product.
Mark Guenther is another old friend from his days as Egg house engineer. He was the man in the seat for the Manband album sessions for Call Down The Moon. He managed to survive three weeks locked in the studio with those famous Welsh ruffians. He now runs Seattle Disc Mastering, the place you would want to take your finished album. Mastering is a lot of magic and hoodoo, that people like myself and Uno prefer to hand over to an expert. The Plaintiffs and Roy Loney's albums were mastered by Mark as well as Donovan's Brain, Eclipse And Debris.
