Deniz Tek - On Tour This Week
Deniz will be doing a short Canadian tour with The Last Of The Bad Men, to support their new album Ride. The album is fantastic, and this is rare chance to see the band out side of Vancouver.

Roy Loney Meets Donovan's Brain
Thanks to Johnny Sangster for making time during a busy week to get Roy into the studio to add a lead vocal track to one of the new Donovan's Brain songs. You can find the beginnings of a recording diary on the Donovan's Brain site. At the moment, you can only access the page from here.

And in other Brain news, most of the band could be found sharing a few drinks at the 2008 Sip and Dip party. There will be some photos posted here shortly. This was the first time Jeff has visited Montana in nearly a year. Jeff went home with a compilation of all the new songs, and in return left a demo of six of his own new compositions. Plans are being made...

Donovan's Brain - Who Is Number 6
The title of the next Donovan's Brain album has yet to be determined, so every is just labeled #6 at this point. The good news is things have moved far enough along to make the first progress compilation. It sounds like it might be good. A few songs are starting to take some shape. Colter was by today to put a guide vocal down for one that may be called Come To The Sun. We've asked Roy Loney to sing on it, and he's said he'd be glad to. Plans are being made to get him into the studio when he's in Seattle this month. Jim Sangster said he'd gladly handle the bass chores. The decision to invite Roy in to sing came about because of a comment from Deniz. When he first heard the song, he thought it would suit Roy and we should give it to him. If it's that good, we're gonna keep it for ourselves.

God Walks Past

Deniz Tek Solo Career Compilation Coming
Citadel records is preparing a double disc, Deniz Tek solo career compilation. The running order has yet to be finalized, but it is said to include material from all the Deniz Tek Group catalog, Golden Breed, and more. A few rarities and previously unreleased tracks are being considered. To support this release, Deniz will tour across Europe this summer. The line up hasn't been confirmed, but Art and Steve Godoy are on the short list, which would actually make this a Golden Breed tour. Watch for dates to be announced soon. This does mean the planned reissue of Bonne Route will be pushed back. Deniz has been searching through the archives and has turned up more material from these sessions. Deniz will also be on the road with Last Of The Bad Men. A string of Canadian dates will be followed by a US tour of the North East. Watch for dates to be announced soon.

God Walks Past
The first volume of the Man Band documentary has recently be released by the good folks at Effigy Music. Gavin Crumpton and crew have released a series of Man and Green Ray fan clubs cds and concert DVDs. God Walks Past is their most ambitious project so far, the three double disc sets will cover the 40 year career of these Welsh Wizards. The story is told by many of the band members, and friends; including Ron Sanchez. The film is filled with some rare historical live performances. Order it directly from Effigy.

Back In The Studio
Donovan's Brain had a productive week in the studio. Deniz was in town for three days to work with Ron and Colter on new material. Guitar was added to three songs. Den has also offered up a song to the Brain. Vanished was a track that didn't make the final cut for Zeno Beach. The idea is to treat it as an instrumental. Bobby Sutliff has been granted full membership in the band. It is hoped that this will mean his name will be spelled correctly on all further releases. Expect to see him make major contributions to the new album.

Career Records Available In Australia
Pure Pop Records in St Kilda, Vic, will be stocking all Career Releases. We have had little luck with Australian distribution due to a variety of factors. Pure Pop has agreed to stock our catalog in their shop. They also offer mail order. We couldn't be happier. By all accounts this is a unique shop, cafe, and live venue. Penny Ikinger performed there recently to a packed house. Give them the business.

Donovan's Brain - Practice Makes Perfect
Work on the next Brain album is moving ahead at a gentle pace. The recent activity has spawned more new material. Ron and Bobby Sutliff have been collaborating on a new song. Bobby has also offered up another new composition, which was gladly accepted. Deniz will be in Bozeman this week and it's expected he'll pick up a guitar and add some sounds to a few of the new songs.

The complete Career Records catalog is now available on iTunes and a dozen other download sites. Angie Pepper's was the last to go up, as it took a while to sort out publishing, which is closely monitored by these outlets. Fair enough. While researching the Link Wray song, Trying To Find Your Love, I turned up a video, which is where Angie found the song. It also appears on a Danish only album.

Radio Play In Australia
Donovan's Brain were heard on the Brain Blood Volume Show this last Sun 23 Mar. Michael Sweitzer's show is heard over night, 01:00 – 0600 on RTR-fm in Perth. The archived show can be heard here: rtrfm.com.au. MJ Sweitzer is a long time fan of Career Records, and one of the shops best customers. This was his radio debut, and we wish him luck.

There has been some Brain activity here in the studio. Colter and Ron have been making good progress in their efforts to finish writing material for the as yet untitled sixth Donovan's Brain album. Nineteen new songs are under consideration, including a cover of the Bobby Sutliff song, Oh, Lorelei, from his last album On A Ladder. Ron and Bob are collaborating and another tune. We are waiting on Jeff's contributions, which he promised to deliver next month. More details when there is something to tell.

Richard Treece Dream Arena East

Richard Treece - Dream Arena East
Career is happy to announce the acquisition of Richard's solo album from a few years back. This has been available from our shop, but recently we made a deal with Nigel Cross to take over the distribution of the remaining stock. We are adding this to our CD Baby shop and through that deal, it will now be available for download on iTunes and the like. As soon as that process is completed, we will post a link.

Here is a live performance by Richard Treece with Green Ray.

The Angie Pepper and Plaintiffs cds have also been added to CD Baby, for those who prefer to use this shop. This will also make these available for download again. CD Baby has proved to be a very reliable distribution source for us, and recommend them highly.

Penny Ikinger - Sydney Show
Penny has been busy in the studio working on her new album. Deniz has been around to lend a hand too. We are looking forward to a full report soon.

18 February 2008 Donovan's Brain New Album
After a long quiet period, Donovan's Brain has begun work on a new album. A dozen songs were demoed some time back, but no further work was done. Colter and Ron met recently and reviewed these songs, shared some new ideas, and sorted through the tracks recorded for the Where The DJs Roam film score. Two of the ideas discussed have now been demoed to see if the arrangements are working. Ron wrote another new song this week which will be added to the list. There are other fragments that will be considered as the project progresses. Full scale sessions are scheduled to begin in May.

Just Out For Some Fun
It was far too cold today to stay indoors and play music, so we headed up the road to Bohart Ranch for some cross country ski fun. Joining Karen and myself was our close friend and near neighbor, Jason Lytle. Some of you may know Jason's music from his band Grandaddy. The temp was hovering around 0F degrees. No worries. A good workout kept us warm.

Happy New Years
We all seemed have survived the parties, and all the food. Now it's time to get back to work. The machines in the studio have been glowing from activity. Sessions have been booked and new Donovan's Brain songs are being finalized. A new synth has been installed in the studio, which always means the chance of a new composition.

Deniz spent a week in Vancouver working on a new Last Of The Bad Men album. From British Columbia, he's flown on to Australia for two months of work there. One of his chores is to find a distribution deal for Roy Loney. This is a top priority for the first quarter of 2008.

We here at Career HQ would like to once again thank everyone who supported our artists over the last year. There are far too many to list, but you all know who you are. To be honest, we are not really sure what is on the release schedule for this year. Penny Ikinger and Donovan's Brain are both starting serious work on new records. Deniz has threatened a new solo album too. That's all we know right now.

Donovan's Brain - Carelessly Restoring Art
GLEA RemixThe first Donovan's Brain release, Carelessly Restored Art, released on Get Hip, included several songs that had been recorded as part of a rock opera called Shambaholic. No, it didn't sound like Queen, or Mozart. It was song cycle, in the style of SF Sorrow or Tommy. When Get Hip asked for an album, the concept album was abandon for various reasons. Several Shambaholic songs had appeared on various compilations, and the Light Proof Visons EP. The band had already recorded most of Eclipse And Debris, which also featured a re-recording of a Shambaholic tune. The songs that did appear on Carelessly Restored Art were all remixed for this release.

Over the last few years work has been done on some of the songs that have never been released, including the title track. When we were preparing our contribution for the Dream Mag comp, Sleep Deep was on the short list of songs. We took the time to add Ron Craighead and Colter Langan to the original track, bringing it up current Brain standards.

There has always been vague plans to reassemble the origninal Shambaholic running order for some sort of release. Recent conversations with Mick Dillingham have revived this idea. There is also the matter of archiving this material which was recorded on the old GLEA 8 track Fostex. This machine is starting to show it's age, and it's about time it's retired from regular service. To compilcate matters there are midi sequenced elements that are stored on floppy discs and need to be synced to the master tape. All this causes us some concern about being able to retrieve these songs in the future. As you can see, the tools we were using nearly 20 years ago, have been called into service for one last project. I am currently up loading a number of songs that haven't been moved to 16 track tape or the computer. Fears about the viability of floppy discs have proved to be valid. The data for at least one song has failed to load. This process will continue on for a few more days. After that, it's anyone's guess what will happen. With talk of a new album, revisiting material recorded in the early 90's isn't a top priority. Once the tracks have been loaded onto the computer, it will be possible to work on them when time allows.

Donovan's Brain has been idle for a while now. Three years of work on Roy Loney's record and a movie sound track have taken up all our time. That time was well spent, but now it's time to get back to work. This current effort is the one step back before we can take the required two steps forward. Stay tuned....

Reviews, Reaction, and Radio
The reaction to Shake It Or Leave It continues to be positive. There are a few more review links posted here.

Shake It Or Leave It is now on the Pandora.com playlist. If you haven't checked it out, Pandora is best described as an internet jukebox. Testing the machine's brain is good fun. Radio Birdman's Zeno Beach is also on the list.

As far as we can tell, the Career catalog is now up on iTunes, EMusic and a dozen other digital download sites. We are happy to offer this option for those who are living in the modern world... not us, we are still buying vinyl here. A couple of realease are up yet, but look for them in the new year. These things take time, and that is a scarce commodity these days.

Donovan's Brain
Colter Langan has resurfaced after disappearing in the wilderness for a while. Maybe he'll write a song about his experiences. If he doesn't, I will. We are looking forward to start work on the next Donovan's Brain thing. There is a large stockpile of material, as well as a lot of new ideas in the works. Deniz has been after us to get to work. Should be interesting.

Career Records Dominates The Media

Penny Ikinger appreared on the Australian TV show Rockwiz this week. From what we've heard hear musical performances were stunning. Our man in Melbourne, Greg Martens, says:

".........she was being introduced on a show called "Rockwiz" and then she played live a track off Elektra. Basically the show is a laid back quiz show on music appealing to an "indie" audience. At the end of the show she did a fucking incredible version of Gimme Shelter with Aussie guitar legend Kevin Borich (who was in the LaDeDas). The version contained her growling guitar and Kevin Borich's awesome wah wah. You need to see and hear this.....

Meanwhile, Roy Loney has been featured in the Swedish magazine, Sonic, a proper glossy monthly. Look for issue nummer 37. The track Great Divide is featured on the enclosed cd along with Broken Social Scene, Babyshambles, and Wooden Shjips. We were impressed with Roy's command of the Swedish language.

Roy Loney Reviews and Radio Play
Shake It Or Leave It has earned several great reviews and is being played on the radio around the country. There is a new page with links to the online press and radio play lists. If you have anything to add, drop us a line and we will post the links. It also appears that Roy will be featured in this week's edition of Billboard. I didn't know there was a "garage band" section!

Radio Birdman
Deniz has filled us in on the last minute cancellation of the London gig this week. A work permit SNAFU meant that Rob wasn't allowed into the UK. No amount of pleading could sway the customs officers. The situation was made a little more unfortunate, when Rusty decided that was too much, and flew home, leaving Birdman with out a drummer for the final two gigs in Greece. Joel, one of the roadies offered to sit in, and by all reports did a credible job. Deniz will be in the office next week, so we'll see if he will share some road stories and photos...

ROY LONEY & SEÑOR NO
The word from Spain is the shows have been going well. A fuil report may follow.
